Update on goals for 2023

Focus

Well, too bad I did not reach my goals in 2023. Instead, I focused on the three main exercises in powerlifting.

Watching People Lift

I think my interest in powerlifting started in 2017. I watched people on YouTube doing powerlifting exercises (squat, bench, and deadlift). There is something captivating about it. Obviously, you showcase to people that you can lift heavy stuff efficiently, but there is also the technique involved. For example, the squat is a technically focused movement. If your technique is poor, you will get injured. The most common injury is lower back pain. So if you are lifting heavy and your technique is on point, you will perform well. What amazes me is seeing the barbell start to bend and strong individuals lifting as if it is nothing. I'm talking about 120kg total weight on the bar. Most barbells start to bend a little at that weight. A decent barbell can bend slightly (whip) due to the flexibility of the spring steel material used.

In-depth Post

Also, I want to talk more in-depth about these movements: squat, bench press, and deadlift. Healthy people who go to the gym should incorporate these exercises into their training program.

From '300' inspiration to the gym: My Journey to become stronger

The Movie '300'

When I was a little boy, I watched the movie '300.' The film depicts 300 death-obsessed Spartans facing off against a horde of Persians, led by the King of Sparta, Leonidas I. Not knowing much about men's physiques at the time, I watched with great joy as I saw how strong the Spartans were. By the end of the movie, I thought, 'Would it be possible for me to achieve this men's physique?' So, at that moment, the Spartan look became imprinted in my mind.

The First Time I Stepped into the Gym

At the age of 17, I went to the gym for the first time. During that period, a friend from secondary school, who was passionate about fitness, strongly encouraged me to start working out. To cut a long story short, I trained nearly every muscle group. The day after, I experienced extreme muscle soreness, which persisted for about a week

Motivation and getting stronger in the gym

To achieve my goals, I structure my training using a fitness app. The fitness app I use is called Five3OnePro. I paid about 10 euros for this app, which I found to be reasonably priced. The best features of this app include a workout timer to track your actual training duration and a list of exercises for each training day.

In summary, the best aspects of the app are as follows: workout plans, timers, exercise lists, tracking of repetitions and volume, calculation of lifted weights during training, the ability to add favorite exercises and customize workouts, and graphical representations and tables.

I believe that following a structured training regimen with the help of an app will lead to gains in the gym, making you stronger. You'll also notice changes in the mirror, which will motivate you to continue your fitness journey.

Goals for 2023

This year, I have three goals I want to achieve. The first one is to perform the L-sit on a dip bar, aiming to hold the L-sit position for a few seconds (as seen in the picture). My second goal is to curl 50 kg with an EZ curl bar. Curling 50 kg (20 kg on each side) would be an impressive achievement in my opinion. Lastly, my third goal is to comfortably squat 130 kg for a single repetition, with the added condition of being able to do two more reps after the first. I consider these three goals to be realistic for me because they represent approximately a 10% to 20% increase in strength and input. I have a whole year to train for these goals.

Adding videos

On this day, I intend to work on my website. I plan to upload two training videos, and I hope to make them work using the standard HTML browser video player. After two hours of coding, I successfully implemented two videos using Video.js, an open-source HTML5 player framework. While Video.js offers many features for lively video presentations, I stuck to the basics of this framework.

The beginning

Today, I added a new training category page to my website. I believe it's essential to include a gym-related photo at the beginning of this page, and I've chosen an appropriate gym photo for that purpose..
